Sales tax in the United States is set state by state, and even county by county — there is no single national rate. This sales tax calculator applies any rate you enter to a pretax price and shows the tax and the new total. For state-level rates, check your state Department of Revenue site or the Federation of Tax Administrators directory.
How sales tax is calculated
Tax = price × (rate ÷ 100). Final cost is price + tax. Most US states publish a combined state + local rate that already includes county and city additions, so you can plug that single number in.
Worked example
A $250 chair in a county with a combined 8.25% sales tax: tax is $20.63, total is $270.63.
